If you’ve played any Overwatch in the last month and a half no doubt you’ve seen the powerhouse that “main heals” Mercy has become.
With her recent re-work introducing the ability to resurrect friendly heroes on a 30 second cooldown, and a super powerful ultimate ability that is like a mobile version of Orisa’s Supercharger, Mercy has become omnipresent.
Since the re-work and subsequent attempt to ‘tone her down’ our favourite healer has surged in popularity with an average pick rate of 96% across all tiers of competitive play – higher than any hero has had in the history of the game.
Today on the PTR (Public Test Region/Realm) for Overwatch, a new tweak has gone live in an attempt to balance the resurrect ability and shave off some of it’s potency. Blizzard have added a cast time of 1.75 seconds to resurrect. Roughly 2x the cast time of Sombra’s hack, this ability is also interruptible with stuns, and knockbacks and it also drops Mercy’s movement speed by 75%.
Both the cast time and movement speed decrease are removed while Mercy is using her ultimate, Valkyrie.
This means the fly-by-rez has been eliminated and Mercy is incredibly vulnerable while picking up a fallen teammate, and should require a great deal more team co-ordination to pull off. But will it be enough to knock Angie off her pedestal?
Personally I can’t wait to see how this plays out. The rez ability causes team fights to drag on, and even though the addition of cast time and movement slow down seem tough, the ability to revive teammates is extremely powerful and should need skill and co-ordination to pull off.
